Biography
Dr. Lau received his B.Sc. degree (with highest distinction) in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, in 1995 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Delaware, Newark, in 1999. Today, he is the Databeam Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Director of Graduate Studies, and a Certified Professional Engineer. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Lau was a DSP Engineer at Aware, Inc., and an Image and Signal Processing Engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Dr. Lau is also Chief Technology Officer for Seikowave Inc, a small Lexington company that sells 3-D scanners into the oil and gas pipeline services industry. Among his many published works is an article in the Proceedings of the IEEE and his own book, Modern Digital Halftoning, now in its second edition and published by CRC Press. Daniel's work has also been featured in such trade magazines as Vision Systems Design, Photonics Spectra, Imaging Insight, Prosilica Camera News, and Inspect Magazine.
